MOTHER BLESSING, otherwise known as a Blessingway - (THE ALTERNATIVE BABY SHOWER)
In almost all cultures, traditionally, women have gathered together before the birth of a baby to wish the mother well. A Mother Blessing, (or Blessingway) is a celebration of the pregnant mother-to-be and her transition from maiden to mother.
As opposed to the more traditional Baby Shower, a Mother Blessing is all about the mother-to-be. They are a chance for the women close to the mother-to-be to honour, support and nurture her, with a sense of long-lost ceremony. A Mother Blessing is seen as a rite of passage and focuses on providing the Mum-to-be with emotional, mental and spiritual support, encouragement and celebration.
Even though traditionally Mother Blessings are women-only events, it’s your gathering and you can invite who you wish! They can be intimate with just a few close girlfriends and family, or they can be a larger celebration. Whatever you choose to do, the focus is on nurturing you!
Each ceremony is different...but YOURS COULD INCLUDE:
2 hours attendance from me as your officiary
Aromatherapy hand massage and foot bathing
Reading of poems/prose
Birthing necklace: A necklace/bracelet is made for the Mother-to-be to wear during labour (each person brings two beads)

Storytelling - positive birth stories
